Hi, I'm Georgia.
I'm a CPA, certified bookkeeper and registered BAS agent, and I've spent more than ten years working with the numbers behind Australian businesses. A good stretch of that was in commercial construction, where the financial discipline is exacting and every job is tracked to the dollar. It taught me how much difference clear numbers make when the stakes are high.
I started Empowering Financial Solutions because most small business owners never get that. I kept meeting people doing genuinely excellent work with no real visibility of whether it was making them any money. Not through carelessness, but because nobody had ever set their numbers up in a way that answered the question. By the time their accountant explained how the year had gone, the year was over and there was usually a tax bill attached to it.
I also kept meeting people, women especially, who had been made to feel foolish for asking a straightforward question about their own business. That one still bothers me. There is no such thing as a silly question about your own money, and I have never once thought less of anyone for asking.
So my job is to hold the complicated end, the work in progress adjustments, the payroll tax registrations, the rate cards and the tax-time journals, and hand back the part that actually helps: what the numbers mean, and what we do about them next. You shouldn't need a finance degree to know whether a job made money, or how much you can safely pay yourself.
I'm Melbourne-based and work virtually with clients right across Australia. They're builders and trades, marketing agencies and creative studios, clinics, cafés and salons, and a good number of them are women building something of their own, which is easily the most rewarding part of the job.
I'm also a mum, which has made me ruthlessly efficient with everybody's time, including my own.
